What is Combined Heat & Power (CHP) technology?CHP technology is essentially a gas engine using the traditional internal-combustion process using gaseous fuel, such as biogas, petrol, diesel or other fossil fuels. The electricity generated can be supplied direct to the end-user, with surplus exported direct to the national grid. The by-product of this power generation is heat. This is used to heat water within a super insulated pipe which is laid in a loop around a factory, office or residential development. This hot water is then fed into each building as you would for a standard central heating system. The advantage of this is the removal of individual gas fired boilers within each building. |
